About the Auditions

orchestra band members playing violins String players are not required to audition, but should be of moderate to advanced ability in order to handle the repertoire; this means having participated meaningfully in a high school orchestra at a minimum. Furthermore, wind players are asked to come in for an informal audition in the case of a high level of interest in any particular instruments. Wind players should email Mr. Westover as soon as possible to schedule an audition. Suggested audition music is attached below:

These auditions will be held Monday and Tuesday, August 22-23, 2011 and will be scheduled by e-mail (see audition requirements below).

Registration Form and payment must be submitted through University of Oklahoma Outreach, College of Continuing Education. Registration fees are non-refundable after August 26, 2011.

Wind Players - Audition Requirements (if necessary)

Play selections from the suggested audition music
AND/OR
Two contrasting excerpts of the player’s choosing from solo, etude, or ensemble literature (2-3 minutes total length);
Two major scales of the player’s choosing (minimum two-octave range);
Full-range chromatic scale.
One short sight-reading excerpt
Scales must be played from memory; slurring up, tonguing down. Players are welcome to submit a resume of their musical background and experiences.
